 NBTE.

 The six man team of the National Board for Technical Education  visited the Polytechnic between 1st and 4th February 2006 on a resource inspection for HND Quantity Surveying and Metallurgical Engineering Technology. The team was led by Engr. J.O. Falade, other members of team are Dr. S.A.Yaro, Mall Mohammed Ibrahim, Mohammed Suleiman and Merrs S.O.Joseph and J.I Ukpai. The Ag. Rector of the Polytechnic Dr. Yahaya Abdulkareem led the management team to receive them in his office. 

AG. RECTOR ATTENDS WORKSHOP IN OTTA, OGUN STATE

 African leadership forum organized a two day workshop in otta, Ogun state between 9th and 11th of February 2006. The workshop theme was “Africa peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Nigeria”, the venue of the workshop the Temperance hotel, otta was full to capacity. The Rector, Dr. Yahaya Abdulkareem was among the privileged that attended the workshop.  The African Leadership Forum is an internationally recognized outfit that is concerned about the emancipation of the black race, and a brainchild of President, Olusegun Obasanjo, who was at the closing ceremony to share his view and interact with  the participants.

 PUBLIC LECTURE                                                                                        

                                                                         

The Students’ Union Government organized a one day public Lecture and cash award for academic excellence on the 22nd of February 2006. Hon. Gbenga Makanjuola of the Federal House of Representative was the guest speaker of the occasion, he delivered a paper on “The impact of students in National Development”.

The ETF lecture theatre was filled to capacity, Prince Ayo Fagbemi, Permanent Secretary, information Ministry, Hon. Isiaka Magaji, Kwara State House of Assembly were on ground to grace the occasion.  The guest speaker gave financial support to Fifty (50) best students in the ND/HND level of the 25 departments in the school.  He equally promised to do other things, as is own contribution to the welfare of the students.  The welfare package will be done in phases, which include procurement of some sporting equipment and renovation of the Library, purchase of books and furniture for the use of students in the Library.

Dr. Yahaya AbdulKareem, the Ag. Rector led Management Team, Principal Officers and the entire Polytechnic Community to grace the occasion. The Ag. Rector was full of gratitude to Hon. Makanjuola for his kind gesture and his concern about his Alma Mater.  “You are indeed a good ambassador of the Polytechnic”.

 

NEW APPOINTMENTS (DIRECTORS, DEPUTIES AND HOD’S)

 The Governing Council has approved the appointments of Directors/Deputy Directors and Heads of Departments for the various Institutes/Centres and Departments.  The new appointees are already settling down in their new capacities.  Congratulations.

 COUNCIL OF REGISTERED ENGINEERS (COREN)        


 
Registrar General of COREN, Engr. (Prof) Olumide Ajose and his Deputy Engr. S.B. Msheila paid a courtesy call to the Polytechnic on the 10th February, 2006.  The State Chairman of the Nigerian Society Engineers, Engr. (Dr) Ahmed Mustapha and his other officials in the state chapter were in the entourage of the Registrar.

The Deputy Rector, Mr. G.T. Olawepo who stood in for the Ag.  Rector,  led other Management and Principal Officers of the Polytechnic to welcome them.

 NATIONAL NEWS

 Opaleye, Olabode Gabriel, HND student of Accountancy Department, Kwara State Polytechnic  is one of the Twenty Students that emerged for the finals of systemspec software competition tagged NISSCOM 2005.  It will hold on February 23 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.  Of the total 387 entries received for the competition from individuals and groups, only 71 were rated as outstanding out of which the 20  finalists who have been adjudged very capable of becoming the next computer software guru were selected.  Opaleye’s area of interest is in the competition is point of sale Automation.

 WEDDING

The Evanglical Church of West Africa (ECWA) Fate/Tanke, Ilorin was agog on Saturday February 4th during the Wedding Ceremony of the Oyewole’s and the Aina’s.

Yetunde Tinuola the daughter of Mrs. O. F. Oyewole, a Chief Lecturer and HOD English and Communication was hooked to Isreal Odunmayowa in a holy Matrimony, the Management, Principal Officers, and  the Polytechnic Community were present to grace the occasion.

Congratulations.  We wish the couple a blissful marital life.             

TRANSITION

 

MRS. NUSIRAT SIKIRU

With heavy hearts and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah we sympathize with the family of Mrs. Nusirat Sikiru whose sudden death occurred on Friday the 10th of February, 2006 after a brief illness.

Until her death, she was a Senior Telephone operatress in the school’s postal agency a Unit in the Registry Department.

We pray to Allah to grant her Alijana Fridaus. (Amin)

 MOGAJI YUSUF TEMITOPE

With heavy heart and deep sorrow, we announce the sudden death of Mogaji, Yusuf Temitope a National Diploma I (Part-Time) Computer Science student in the early hours of Monday 13th February, 2006.

We pray that God will give the school and the parent the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.  May his gentle soul rest in peace (Amen).
