REQUIREMENT FOR A DIPLOMA
The requirement for admission in to
the polytechnic programmes very from course to courses. Nevertheless it must be
mentioned that the requirement are the same for full –time and part time
programmes. It should also be noted that admissions in to the ND full-time
programmes are handled by the joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Below are the requirements for the
various diploma programmes of the polytechnic.
(i) National Diploma ( ND)
programmes
Applicants for admission in to the ND
programmes will be required to obtain a minimum of four (4) credits at not more
than two (2) sitting in the relevant subjects.
NABTEB certificate is also acceptable
for admission.
- Credit pass in mathematics is
compulsory for all applicants seeking admission in to any programme in the
polytechnic, except in secretarial studies where a minimum of pass grade is
required in mathematics.
- Applicants seeking admission in
to programmes in the institutes of Administration, Business and Vocational
studies must posses a minimum of credits pass in English Language while those in
the institute of technology, Environmental studies, Basic and Applied Science
are required to have a minimum of pass grade in English Language in addition to
Departmental requirements except Estate management. For Computer science,
applicants are required to have at least a pass grade in physics
(ii) Higher National Diploma
(HND) programmes will be required to have
Applicants for admission in to the HND
programmes will be required to have
- National Diploma (ND) with
a minimum of lower credit in the field of interest and four (4) relevant Credits
pass at SSCE, GCE, NECO, or their equivalents.
- A minimum of one year post
ND cognate work experience (Industrial Training).
- Applicants with pass
classification in the ND will be required to have at least two (2) years post
National Diploma Industrial Experience.
- In secretariat studies,
preference will be given to candidates with good grade in skill subject such as
shorthand, typewriting and computer science.
- Applicants with ND in
Metallurgical Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering option).
(iii) Diploma programmes:-
Applicants for admission in to the
Diploma programmes will be required to have completed the one –year certificate
programme with at least lower credit in the relevant field and four (4) credit
passes in GCE/ SSCE/NECO or its equivalent at not more than two (2) sitting
including mathematic and English Language. For legal studies, one is required to
have at least 5 credits passes including English and at least a pass in
mathematics. For sharia and common Law one of the credits must be in Islamic
Religion studies.
(iv) Advanced Diploma programmes
- Applicants
seeking admission in to the Advanced Diploma programmes will be required to have
Diploma with a minimum of lower credit in the relevant field.
- At least four credits in
GCE/SSCE/NECO or its equivalent at not more than two (2 ) sitting in the
relevant subjects. Credit passes in English Language and mathematics are
compulsory except for Advanced Diploma in Administration where a pass in
mathematics is acceptable.

For Advanced Diploma in
Accounting and Auditing, ICAN foundation, AIB (part 11) NCE Business Education
(Accountancy option or Mathematics, Economics) with Credit /Merit level will be
considered.
