SCHOOL LIBRARY
Apart from the Departmental Libraries,
the Polytechnic also has the Central Library located at the main campus of the
Polytechnic. The opening hours during the session are between Monday to Friday
at 8:00pm to 10:00pm and on Saturday between 8:00am and 1:00pm. During vacation,
the opening hours are Monday to Friday between 8:00am to 4:00pm and Saturday
between 8:00am and 12:00noon. The Library will normally be closed on Sunday and
recognized public holidays.
On registration, membership of the
Library is available to both full time and part time students and members of the
Senior Staff of the Polytechnic. A registration from must be completed by each
reader, who is then issued with a reader’s registration card and with the
appropriate number of Readers’ tickets for borrowing.
Students keep their tickets when not
in use, but those for Senior Staff are held in the Library.
Readers should carry their
registration cards whenever they wish to use the Library as any library staff
may at any time ask that the cards be produced for checking
A registered reader who loses his/her
registration card should report immediately at the circulation desk. A duplicate
may be issued on payment of a replacement fee to be determined by the librarian
but only after one month from the date the loss was reported.
The loss of readers’ tickets should
also be reported immediately but no duplicates will be issued for the remainder
of the session.
The use of the library may, in special
cases be extended to other persons upon application in writing to the Librarian.
Regarding borrowing of books, students
may borrow any book which is not otherwise restricted to use in the Library.
Examples of books restricted to the
Library are: Reference or Reserved books, and their bound or unbound
periodicals.
Students may borrow up to 2 books at a
time.
Books to be borrowed must be presented
at the Circulation Desk by the ticket holder in person with one Reader’s ticket
for each book and the date due must be stamped on the book. The period of loan
is 14 days.
All borrowing must be completed 15
minutes before closing time.
Loans may be renewed if the books are
not required by others readers
Overdue notices are normally sent out,
but each reader is responsible r the return of the books on his tickets whether
or not he receives the notice (s).
Holders of overdue books will be fined
N5.00 per day. After 30 days the fine will be N50.00 per week or
portion thereof. Library books recalled by the librarian will be charged at the
rate of N 10.00 pre day after 72 hours from the notice.
Further loan privileges will be
withdraw from anyone who keeps books longer than 30 days after they are due for
returning or renewal. Furthermore, on lost books, mutilation and theft,
readers are responsible for the safe –keeping of all books issued to them are
required to pay for replacement in the event of loss or damage. If a reader
loses a book, this should be reported immediately to the circulation librarian.
A period of time will them be allowed for the reader to search for the missing
item.
Refusal to pay for such losses will be
referred to the Bursar.
On mutilation, this is a serious
anti-social activities which impairs the usefulness of these publications not
only for present readers but (especially with serial and out- of –print books)
for future generation of users, since such publication are often unobtainable
again at any cost. Therefore any person who mutilates or steals polytechnic
books will face the full severity of polytechnic discipline.
Photocopies are available in the
library at minimum cost.
Finally, the general library
regulations include:
i. Readers must enter and
leave the library reading room by the main entrance.
ii. Briefcases, bags, sticks,
water proofs, etc must be left at the place provided for them.
iii. Books and journals
consulted in the library should be left on the tables and not returning to the
shelves. This is to make sure that they are put back in their correct places by
trained library staff.
iv. Reader must show books and
papers which they are carrying to the library staff when they leave the library.
v. Seats provided in the
reading rooms may not be reserved by any reader.

Admission to staff
working areas is by special permission only, and must be strictly on business.
In the interest of others, the
following discipline should be observed.
1. Quietness should obtain at
all time in the library.
2. Eating, drinking, and
smoking are not permitted in the library.
3. Switch off your mobile
phone when in the library.
The librarian may suspend or
withdrawn library privileges from anyone who contravenes these regulations. Or
may report any offences to the appropriate authority.
