FLAG – OFF OF 2005 BURSARY AWARD

 

The Kwara State Government flagged –off the 2005 Bursary award for the state indigenes in the polytechnic on 28th of Oct., 2005.

The Executive Governor Dr. Bukola Saraki was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for finance and Economic Development, Alh. Fatah Ahmed, in his speech he thanked the students and the Authority of the Polytechnic for maintaining peace and smooth academic calendar in the last two years.

Top Government functionaries present include the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Barrister Lanre Daibu and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. (Mrs) Zainab Ambali. The Chairman of the Scholarship Board, Alh. Mahmud Alfanla and the Executive Secretary Dr. Funsho Ahmed and members of the scholarship Board were present to grace the occasion.

Dr. Y.A.Abdulkareem, the Rector of the school thanked the state government for having a listening ear to the yearnings of Kwarans and the Education sector in particular, the Deputy Rector, Registrar, Bursar, Directors and other senior members of staff of the Polytechnic were present at the occasion.

The president of National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), Ishaq Lawal thanked the state government for the kind gesture. Every student of Kwara indigene is entitled to N2,000:00 (Two thousand naira only),in the Bursary scheme.

 

RECTOR ATTENDS CO-HEADS MEETING

 

 The Ag. Rector Dr. Y.A.Abdulkareem was away in Niger State to attend co-Heads meeting as the Federal Polytechnic, Bida. The meeting took place on the 9th and 10th November 2005. The Ag. Rector is welcome back home.

 

PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION: SURVEYORS COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (SURCON) VISITS KWARA POLYTECHNIC

 

 Professional Accreditation for the surveying and Geo-informatics Department of the Polytechnic by the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) took place between 8th and 11th of Nov. 2005.

The Accreditation team was led by Prof. O.O. Ayeni, who is a senior member of the Institute and is a professor of Survey and Geoinformatics from University of Lagos, other members of the team include the Registrar of the Council, (Surveyor) Afolabi O. Soles, E.O. Ajiboye (Deputy Surveyor General Kwara State) and Winston A. Ayeni,  Head of Department of Surveying, Kaduna Polytechnic.

The Deputy Rector led the Management team to an exit meeting where a number of issues raised by the accreditation team were noted and others to be amended and rectified.

 

NATIONAL CONFERENCE

 

 First national Conference on inter-disciplinary Science and Technology Organized by the Institute of Basic and Applied Sciences took place at the newly completed ETF lecturer theatre in the Polytechnic between 9th and 11th of November, 2005.The seminar, the first of its kind was well attended by scientists of different disciplines from nooks and crannies of the country.

At the opening ceremony, the representative of the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Adeyemi, Director of Science and Technology praised the efforts of the Organisers and the Polytechnic for such an important conference especially now that the whole world is talking the language of science, IT, and other related issues which are bye products of this type of conferences.

 

The Ag. Rector Dr. Y.A.Abdulkareem led the management team to the opening ceremony. In his speech he commended the Institute of Basic and Applied Sciences for a good effort towards technological advancement and praised the idea of such a national conference. He wished the participants happy deliberations.

 

JOURNAL ON CONTEMPORARY STUDIES

 

 The Institute of General Studies of the Polytechnic has published a maiden Edition of a journal on contemporary studies.

The 120 page scholarly and well-researched journal had contributions from lecturers from the Department of Liberal Studies and English and Communications, the journal was released in Oct, 2005.

For further information interested contributors should get in touch with Messrs J.B. Asonibare and S. S. Atanda, Chairman and Secretary Journal Committee respectively or Mrs H.N.Adam and Mrs. R.K.Akanbi of Liberal Studies and English and Communication Departments respectively.

 

WEDDING 

 

                         

 IRANLOYE AND AKINYEMI FAMILIES

The daughter of Mr. J.O.Iranloye of the Establishment Unit of the Registry Department, Esther Folashade got married to Mayokun Abiodun on Saturday 29th  October, 2005 at the Ministry of Information Registry, Offa Road, Ilorin. The reception took place at St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin.

The Polytechnic community rejoices with the Iranloye and Akinyemi families, we wish the couples  a blissful married life.

BIRTH

 

 MR. AND MRS OLAREWAJU.

The Secretary of Kwara Polytechnic (NASU Chapter)  Mr. Saka Olarewaju was blessed with a baby girl on 29th October, 2005. she was named on 5th Nov, 2005. We wish Halimat Yewande Omowumi long life and good health.  Congratulations Mr. and Mrs Saka Olarewaju.
