STUDENT ORGANIZATION
It is the policy of the
Polytechnic to encourage students and organize themselves into various
clubs, societies and organization in order to promote the academic ,
recreational and social life of the institution.
Such Club/ Societies shall be duly
registered at the Students Affairs Office upon recommendation by a Senior
Staff who shall not be below the rank of Senior Lecturer or its Equivalent.
The Polytechnic shall not encourage
student societies, which in their membership; discriminate on the basis of
ethnicity. No tribal club/societies/organizations shall be registered.
Students Clubs/Societies shall be
appoint members of Senior Staff who shall not be below the rank of Senior
Lecturers or equivalent as Patron, Advisers or Fellow.
Societies and Clubs shall be
re-registered each session and be licensed to operate within the or
re-registration. License may however de denied any club for any particular
session. Each approval for re-registration and license shall last for the
academic session of that period.
The societies shall submit to the
students’ affairs office before registration or re-registration, one copy of
their constitution and bye-laws.
The Societies shall submit lists of
officers to the Students’ Affairs Office as soon as elections are conducted.
The societies shall also submit the
proposed programmes of activities designed to contribute to the academic,
cultural and social or recreational life of the campus.
Campaign for election into clubs and
societies offices should be restricted to students’ is extended to academic
areas. The same rule to all non-academic activities organized by union or
individuals.
As a means of ensuring accountability,
societies or union executives or caretaker committee should hand over before the
end of the session, a properly audited account of the organization to a
succeeding executives committee or caretaker committee.
Failure by societies to observe the
relevant rules and regulations of the Polytechnic may result in cancellation of
Registration.
Societies that carry out activities
which may discredit the Polytechnic or bring the name of the Polytechnic into
disrepute shall have their registration cancelled , and their officers may
face additional disciplinary action.
Registered societies must have
permission in writing from the Directorates of Students Services on the use of
Polytechnic facilities in non-academic areas. Use of facilities in academic area
must receive the written permission of the Director of the Institute in which
the facility is located
At least seven days notice is required
for the use of any building normally used for academic purpose.
The request for use of the Student
Common Rooms or Union Centre must be endorsed by the President of the Students
Union or his representative and approved by the Directorate of Students
Services.
The Societies shall be responsible for
the maintenance of any facilities used.
The Societies shall also be
responsible for the transfer and return of any Polytechnic property which may be
moved.
